Well after many long days and nights of the hussle and flow of UCLA's Paralegal Training program, I can now say that I'm finally finished. There were times when I doubted myself and my skill set but I pulled through and I'm living to tell the story. Since graduation, which was really nice by the way, I have been busying myself with applying the knowledge of "Corporate Formations" of course starting up my new legal document preparation company. No time to waste! I always have loved forward talk, more than looking back. If we could change our actions, we might not have gotten in the trouble we did and I know some who would probably do something else if you would have gotten away with what you were convicted of. LOL. Back to my blog point which is, we must be creative to establish our own place in America. It's common knowledge among many of us ex felons that some states are cruel and don't allow those convicted of a felony to vote, own land, run for public office, or to obtain and an expungement.
Nevertheless, learning the business game to take control of ones destiny is not an impossible feat. It is not for the faint of heart and the feeble of mind either. Of all those things I listed that ex felons can't do; one thing that a ex-felon is not restricted from doing and that is going into business for yourself. It may require you to do both get out of and or think outside your comfort zone, but consider the options? Once, I ran across a article that explained how a credit union established by ex convicts. After reading the article it made perfect sense; which is why it worked. The "perfect sense" was Cooperatives, corporations, LL C's, none of these applications ask the ominous question of "have you been convicted of a felony offense?
My Epiphany: Legal Document Preparation
I decided on legal document preparation because I lack faith in the good ole boy system at the state bar level. I was inspired to blog about my experience because when I researched the Internet and found how very few blog spots there are that are dedicated to the work of Independent Paralegals and Independent Paralegals with felony convictions, I thought why not start a revolution. I think my background alone makes for a more "spirited conversation" in the realm of the politics of rehabilitation and re-entry. Since there were none that I could find, I thought I'd set out to do a little pioneering of my own. I thought that since we are in the information age, it would be kinda cool to capture the "foot work" that goes into doing the REAL WORK that goes into being a judicial taskmaster of the REAL DEVIL while I still have a fair amount of my innocence in tact. LOL. I will keep you guys posted.....
